What is a Committeewoman?

I get asked this question a lot so I’d like to take a moment to explain the roles and responsibilities of this position. A Democratic Committeewoman does the following:

1. Encourages people to become involved in the Democratic process
2. Recruits young people into the Democratic Party by presenting the ideas and beliefs of the Party in an open and public manner in forums around the area
3. Provides training and workshops to its members and other Democrats, so that they might be better able to involve themselves in electoral politics and the political process
4. Stimulates discussion of important issues facing the 8th Ward, the City of St. Louis, the state of Missouri, and the nation
6. Supports the electoral efforts of Democrats
7. Educates Ward residents regarding current ballot initiatives and policy objectives of the Democratic Party
8. Serves as a voice for the future of the Missouri Democratic Party in the City of St. Louis

A Committeewoman must be on top of what is going on at the neighborhood, ward, city, and state level. I spend a great deal of time researching and understanding the current political climate, reviewing legislation and considering how it could affect the residents of the 8th ward. As your Committeewoman, I will bring this information to you, getting your feedback and providing your thoughts to our legislators. I plan to do this through attending neighborhood meetings, writing columns in neighborhood newsletters, and ensuring personal accessibility.
